4 Senior Relocation Priorities

Posted by on

The decision has been made. You’re moving. You’ve done it plenty of times before, but this time it's different. You’ve chosen a senior living community. The apartment is a fraction of the size of your current home. How do you choose what to take and what to let go? Is the thought of packing decades of living into a few boxes overwhelming?  Are you wondering how to liquidate all the items you won't be able to take with you?

Carolyn came to us almost a year before her move. She had made the decision to move into a retirement community in Little Rock, AR. She had chosen a realtor, toured several senior communities and then called us, Caring Transitions of Little Rock Metro. At her request, we scheduled a consultation to walk through her home and help her plan out the decisions associated with space planning for her new apartment as well as liquidating the items in her home that would not be moving with her. Carolyn was fortunate to have plenty of time to plan and emotionally process everything that was happening.

Below are her four priorities, and how we were able to address her concerns:

  1. Creating a comfortable home in the new apartment, while making room for what was important to retain.

It takes more than a moving company to relocate someone who has a lifetime of memories and belongings. Photos, collectibles, and personal items that hold special value, need to be considered when planning a move.

Moving can be stressful for anyone. But, for older adults who might struggle with physical or mental issues, a move can feel nearly impossible.  We understand this, which is why our team of relocation specialists strive to match the layout and placement of important items from the old home to the new home.

  1. Quickly selling the items left in her home at the highest revenue level possible.

Like most people, Carolyn lives on a fixed income and needed the sale revenue to supplement her income toward her rent payment, while her home remains on the “market”.

Caring Transitions of Little Rock Metro keeps your family’s best interests at heart by acting as your on-site advocate, marketing and sales team. We carefully manage the items in the home, treating them like our own, to ensure they are sold or liquidated in a timely manner, through the most effective approach possible. Caring Transitions LRM has a robust team of talented, caring employees who can quickly respond to the need for a sale event. We have a strong reputation in our community and have established a strong following of buyers that support our sale events. We have a dedicated social media team to aggressively market/promote our events.  And, we have a variety of sale options available to sell one’s items. In other words, our approach is individualized to the needs and goals of our clients.

  1. Clearing the home so it could sell and be ready for occupancy of the new owners.

If requested, as soon as a sale event is over, our team immediately works to clear the home. Our services include:

  • Coordinate with non-profit agencies pick-up/drop off donations

  • Negotiate a “buy-out” offer by local resellers

  • Coordinate home cleaning (obtain quotes and arrange for cleaning service)

  • Junk/trash removal

  1. Having a one source solution for her move, sale event and home clearing phases of her transition.  She wanted to deal with 1 person, not 2 or more.

Our experts at Caring Transitions of Little Rock Metro is a single source, one-stop solution for one’s entire relocation project.

The downsizing process can be overwhelming. Caring Transitions LRM is a “senior move manager”. Move managers can help with as little or as much as our clients request, like sorting belongings, packing, managing the move, arranging estate sales or online auctions, unpacking and arranging items in the new home, and final clear-out and cleaning of the previous home.

Caring Transitions LRM offers a streamlined support system to help facilitate a less stressful transition, taking care of the details so you can take care of yourself or a loved one. From sorting through years of memories, working with estate planners, coordinating movers and real estate agents, to designing a functional and comfortable floor plan, our compassionate and experienced professionals can be involved as much or as little as you like.

Caring Transitions LRM employees are held to the highest standards and maintain ongoing security and education requirements. Our employees are bonded, insured, and thoroughly screened, and each of our offices participates in the comprehensive Certified Relocation Transition Specialist (CRTS) Program.
